Abhisit urges next government to proceed with 11th national development plan
BANGKOK, July 7 (TNA) - Outgoing Thai Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva has urged the next government to follow the 11th National Economic and Social Development Plan in the next five years to cope with world economic challenges, global changes and social inequality.
Abhisit made the call Thursday, saying that Thailand was confronting changes, including a shift in world economic power from the US, Europe and Japan to Brazil, Russia and China. Other issues, he added, were global warming, problematic financial systems, an aging Thai society and social inequality.
The outgoing Thai prime minister suggested the new government urgently develop the quality and opportunities for all Thais through educational improvement and family empowerment.
When touching on the issue of national reconciliation, Abhisit insisted it was the duty of all parties, including the government, the opposition, businessmen and the general people. (TNA)
