Indonesia's seasonal haze begins affecting Thai South

BANGKOK, July 6 (TNA) - Mild smog, believed to have been caused by a seasonal haze in neighbouring Indonesia, was reported in several areas in Thailand's southern Songkhla Province on Wednesday, particularly communication routes linking Hat Yai, the province's major business hub, and the Muang District.

Local people said that the mild smog reduced their normal visibility, acknowledging that southern Thai areas have always been affected by the annual haze in Indonesia, caused by widespread forest fire.

Meanwhile, Thailand's southern meteorological office in Songkhla issued an official report, saying that a southwest monsoon covering the Thai South has likely brought with it the Indonesian haze, as hundreds of spots on Indonesia's Sumatra Island are being raged by forest fire. (TNA)
