Vietnam expects closer legislative ties with the UK

Hanoi (VNA) - Chairman of the National Assembly Nguyen Phu Trong has called for closer cooperative ties between the Vietnamese and UK parliaments, particularly in the legislative and judicial areas.

While meeting with the UK Lord Chancellor and Secretary of State for Justice
Jack Straw in Hanoi on September 12, Chairman Trong said as Vietnam 's
legislative body is reforming its organisation and operation to improve its
role in the country's life, experiences of the UK , which boasts a long
parliamentary tradition, will be very useful.

The legislative leader spoke highly of the significance of the visit by
Justice Secretary Jack Straw, describing it as a demonstration of the
Vietnam-UK relations development.

The visit, which took place when Vietnam and the UK are celebrating the 35
th anniversary of their diplomatic ties and followed the official visit by
Prince Andrew, the Duke of York, would help boost cooperative ties between
the two countries and two parliaments in the future, Chairman Trong also
said.

Secretary Straw said the UK is willing to share with Vietnam its
experiences in parliament, state and government activities, including the
modernisation of the parliament's working style and the appraisal of draft
laws.-Enditem
