US hopes new Thai government will bring unity

BANGKOK, July 6 (TNA) - US Ambassador to Thailand Kristie Kenney says she hopes the new Thai government will be a government that brings Thai people together.

Speaking at a reception held in Bangkok Tuesday night to celebrate the 235th Anniversary of the Independence of the United States, Ambassador Kenney said she would like to congratulate the Thai people on the successful election held last Sunday. She was looking forward to working with all sides: the next government, the opposition, as well as the non-partisan civil society.

Ambassador Kenney added she was looking forward to sustaining the strong bilateral relations between the United States and Thailand. Specifically, she hoped to collaborate with the next Thai government on economic and safety issues, and would like to help Thailand on health and refugee issues.

The Independence Day reception hosted by the US Embassy in Thailand was attended by several hundred guests, including members of the Privy Council, foreign dignitaries, high ranking government and military officials, and the Thai prime minister-elect, Yingluck Shinawatra. (TNA)
