U.S. prepared to cooperate with Thailand

BANGKOK, July 5 (TNA) - The ambassador of the United States to Thailand has met with the outgoing prime minister Abhisit Vejjajiva to congratulate him on the smooth running of Sunday’s general election.

Ambassador Kristie Kenney told reporters Tuesday after calling on Abhisit at Government House that she met with Yingluck Shinawatra, a key figure of the Pheu Thai Party, on Monday to congratulate her as well on her victory in the election, while confirming that the U.S. was ready to cooperate with the new government to take the country forward.

Kenney also informed Abhisit that the U.S. was ready to work with him in his next capacity as a member of the opposition.

Meanwhile, the top U.S. diplomat congratulated Thai people for their robust participation in the election, believing that a majority of the public was looking forward to the line-up of the new coalition government. (TNA)
