Thailand's first House session after national poll to convene by August 3

BANGKOK, July 5 (TNA) - Thailand's House of Representatives is likely to convene its first session by August 3, after the country's new general election last Sunday.

Thai House Secretary General Pithoon Pumhiran said on Tuesday that, according to the country's 2007 Constitution, state ceremonies on the official appointments of the country's newly-elected Prime Minister and newly-elected House speaker and Parliament President, endorsed by His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej in royal commands, are to be held within 30 days after a new general election.

Pithoon noted that his Secretariat of the Thai House of Representatives has, therefore, prepared appropriate locations and needed facilities for the state ceremonies and will hold a meeting on Wednesday to discuss and outline official procedures and schedules of the state ceremonies.

The Thai House secretary general affirmed that his office has also arranged in good place a location where all elected MPs will report themselves to the Thai Parliament, after they are officially endorsed by the Election Commission (EC) shortly.

Given the constitutional requirement, the Thai House Secretariat's chief said that the first House session to vote for a new House Speaker, who is also Thailand's new Parliament President, is to convene by August 3.

Regarding to the Thai Parliament's security measures to be provided for the country's first female Prime Minister-to-be Yingluck Shinawatra, the Thai House secretary general acknowledged that a squad of female security officers will join male security staff to safeguard the newly-elected Thai premier from the Pheu Thai Party.
