Pheu Thai Party forming five-party coalition gov’t

BANGKOK, July 4 (TNA) - The Pheu Thai Party, which won a major victory in Sunday’s election, announces forming a five-party coalition government with 299 seats.

Yingluck Shinawatra, Pheu Thai’s top list candidate and Thailand's potential first female prime minister, issued the statement at a press conference on Monday with key figures of the partnering Chartthaipattana Party, Chart Pattana Puea Pandin Party, and Mahachon and Phalang Chon parties.

Yingluck said the five parties shared a common intention to promote national reconciliation, noting that the Truth and Reconciliation Committee, which was appointed by the Democrat-led government, will continue to perform its duty to forge national unity. She added that the five parties will also aim to solve economic difficulties, including the issue of expensive good prices.

In a related development, Democrat Party spokesman Buranaj Smutharaks announced that the outgoing prime minister Abhisit Vejjajiva will remain as acting Democrat Party leader following his morning resignation. (TNA)
