Iran advises UK gov't to avoid violence vis-a-vis major protests

Tehran, July 4, IRNA -- Iran on Sunday advised the British government to refrain from violence vis-a-vis the major protests and dissent against the government.

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Ramin Mehmanparast called on the UK government not to take violent action against its own civilians protesting the budget cuts.

Iran made the recommendation in reaction to the British police violence against the peaceful demonstrators protesting the government's austerity budget.

“The British police's vicious behavior with the peaceful protestors on June 31 is violation of the legal rights of people to express their ideas and hold protests.'

The Foreign Ministry spokesman advised the British government to consider the rights of those detained by the police in the peaceful protest.

London police arrested 30 demonstrators in a major protest at the UK coalition government's austerity budget plan./end
