Pheu Thai Party to lead next coalition government

BANGKOK, July 4 (TNA) - The Pheu Thai Party's No. 1 list candidate and de facto Prime-Minister-elect Yingluck Shinawatra says that her party will form the next coalition government to lead Thailand after official results of the July 3 poll is finalised.
Preliminary results point to a clear victory for Pheu Thai against all other contending parties in Sunday’s general election. Nevertheless, Yingluck Shinawatra, who is set to become Thailand’s first female Prime-Minister-elect, said that a coalition is still needed in the forming of the next government.
The youngest sister of the convicted former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra reaffirmed that her first priority will be to improve the country’s economic condition, as part of her election pledges to the people.
The Pheu Thai coalition will also work to reconcile differences in Thai society and pursue long term national development, she said.
Yingluck added that so far she has formed an alliance with the Chart Thai Pattana Party pending on the official election results, with the Chart Pattana Pue Pandin party tipped to be another coalition partner.
Meanwhile, former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra congratulated his sister for the election victory through various interviews with the press.
He also said he will return to Thailand from his self-imposed exile abroad once his convicted status is removed, referring to the quest for political amnesty proposed by many Pheu Thai party members leading up to the polls. Thaksin however, insisted that he is willing to reconsider his return if it becomes a problem to the Kingdom’s reconciliation process. (TNA)
