Exit polls show Pheu Thai Party enjoys landslide victory in Thailand’s election

BANGKOK, July 3 (TNA) - The general election in Thailand has been concluded and an exit poll shows that the Pheu Thai Party that is connected with and supports former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra wins the election with its House seats over doubling those of the Democrat Party.
As a result, Ms Yingluck Shinawatra, the youngest sister of Thaksin and the top list candidate of the Pheu Thai Party, is likely to be the first female prime minister of Thailand.
The result of an exit poll by ABAC Poll Research Center of Assumption University and MCOT Plc was released just after the voting hours had ended at 3pm. The exit poll shows that the Pheu Thai Party will obtain 299 House seats while the Democrat Party will have 152 seats.
The Pheu Thai Party defeats the Democrat Party in all regions, especially in the North and the Northeast, except the South that is the political stronghold of the Democrat Party.
The exit poll reveals surprisingly that in Bangkok which used to be a political stronghold of the Democrat Party the Pheu Thai Party will win as many as 24 out of 33 House seats and the Democrat Party will have only nine seats.
The pollster insists on its deviation of only 3-4%.
Supporters of the Pheu Thai Party who gathered at its headquarters waiting for the election outcome were jubilant just when learning the exit poll result amid an army of Thai and foreign journalists who were covering developments there.
The Election Commission expects the official result of the election later tonight. (TNA)
