SOME PROGRESS MADE IN EFFORTS TO SECURE RELEASE OF M'SIAN HOSTAGES

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 12 (Bernama) -- Some progress has been made in efforts to secure the release of the crew members held hostage by pirates who hijacked two MISC Bhd vessels in the Gulf of Aden, off the waters of Somalia and Yemen, last month, Malaysian deputy prime minister Najib Razak said Friday.

"Some progress (has been made) but we have not reached the final
conclusion yet," he told reporters after opening the Guangdong-Malaysia Business Conference.

Pirates hijacked the MT Bunga Melati Dua with a crew of 29 Malaysians and
10
Filipinos on Aug 19 and the MT Bunga Melati 5 with 36 Malaysians and five
Filipinos on board 10 days later.

On Thursday, National Security Council (NSC) secretary Muhammad Hatta
Abdul Aziz said negotiations to secure the release of the crew were proceeding
smoothly and showing positive signs.

Muhammad Hatta had said that all the crew members were safe and healthy and
their food supplies were sufficient.
