Thai military assures national defence in Sa Kaeo bordering Cambodia

SA KAEO, July 1 (TNA) - The Royal Thai Army assured on Friday that Thai troops have fully prepared to protect the national territory in Thailand's eastern Sa Kaeo Province bordering Cambodia.
Lieutenant General Udomdej Sitabutr, Commanding General of Thailand's 1st Army Area Command, affirmed that the 2nd Infantry Division and the 13th ad hoc Paramilitary Ranger Regiment under his supervision have been ready to protect the national sovereignty in Sa Kaeo.
Lieutenant General Udomdej said, however, that there has been no any unusual movement in the Cambodian side near Sa Kaeo, and that local authorities of both sides have maintained their normal relations and can contact each other around the clock; so, he is not concerned over the border situation in Sa Kaeo at the moment.
The regional Thai army commander insisted that the situation between Thailand and Cambodia in areas under the jurisdiction of his 1st Army Area Command has apparently remained normal and exchanged visits at border checkpoints between Thai and Cambodian people have continued as usual although stepped-up security measures have been implemented.
According to the senior Thai army officer, border businesses have also continued as usual, but provincial and district authorities have encouraged local people in their respective areas to take precautions; while Thai security forces have been guarding Thai villages and areas along the common border.
