Thailand-Japan join forces in energy research

BANGKOK, July 1 (TNA) - Thailand Institute of Scientific and Technological Research (TISTR) and Japan’s Denso Corporation have inked an agreement to jointly conduct a research on the production of biofuel from microalgae.
The research is aimed at finding alternative energy to address the shortage of fossil fuel and answer questions on the safety of nuclear power.
Under the project, TISTR will receive microalgae with high oil yields from Denso and grow it in Thailand for 18 months. The Thai institute will then compare the result of the experiment with those already conducted in Japan.
The TISTR activity complies with the International Convention on Biological Diversity on access to and shares of biological resources and biological safety among signatory members. (TNA)
