Floods remain critical in lower Thai North

NAN, July 1 (TNA) - As floods in most areas in Thailand's Upper North, particularly in Nan Province, have been receding, inundations in the country's lower northern areas, including Sukhothai Province, have remained critical.
Flooding in three sub-districts in Sukhothai's Muang District has remained serious, as the water level of the Yom River has exceeded its critical level and shown no signs of subsiding. Several houses and buildings in the affected areas have been under the flooding water as deep as 1.5 metres, caused by the overflowing Yom River. Local rescue teams have used flat boats to evacuate flood victims and to dispatch needed supplies and other assistance to them.
The situation in most areas in flood-ravaged Nan has been returning to normal, with inundations now only remaining in riverside and other low-lying locations. Inundations in Tak's Mae Sot District have also been receding.
But in Nakhon Phanom Province, bordering Laos, in Thailand's northern region, the water level of the Mekong River has reportedly kept rising and people in flood-prone areas have been warned of possible floods in the coming days. (TNA)
