Kaieda making arrangements for 3-day visit to China from July 16

TOKYO (Kyodo) - Industry minister Banri Kaieda is making final arrangements for a three-day visit to Beijing and other areas in China from July 16 to meet Chinese officials including Commerce Minister Chen Deming, sources close to bilateral relations said Thursday.
Despite the political wrangling in Tokyo, the two countries have decided to accelerate their talks ahead of next year's 40th anniversary of the normalization of diplomatic relations, they said.
Kaieda and Chinese officials are likely to discuss issues such as rare earth trade, Japan-China economic cooperation following the devastating March 11 earthquake and tsunami as well as the Doha Round of global trade liberalization negotiations, prior to a bilateral high-level economic dialogue this summer, according to the sources.
Chinese Vice Premier Wang Qishan and other senior ministers are slated to attend the meeting scheduled for mid-August in Tokyo.
Kaieda is also expected to call on China to ease its import restrictions on Japanese farm products and other items imposed due to concerns about contamination stemming from the nuclear crisis at the Fukushima Daiichi power plant crippled by the natural disasters in March, the sources said.
In addition to Beijing, the Japanese economy, trade and industry minister plans to visit Wuhan to participate in the opening ceremony for an office of the government-affiliated Japan External Trade Organization, the first of its kind established in inland China, they added.
