SPEAKER RECEIVES DELEGATES OF NEWS AGENCIES

Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, /MONTSAME/ The Parliament Speaker D.Demberel met Wednesday delegates of national news agencies that took part in the 33rd Executive Board meeting and 27th Editorial-Technical Experts Group meeting of the Organization of Asia-Pacific News Agencies (OANA) held June 28-29 in Ulaanbaatar.
The Speaker has thanked the representatives for arriving in Mongolia and wished them an enjoyable stay.
He has said many international meetings and forums of Asia-Pacific countries regularly run here such as the 19th Annual Meeting of the Asia Pacific Parliamentary Forum, underlining that it is "a great honor for the Mongolian national news agency to be selected as the member of the OANA's Executive Council".
Mr Demberel has said Mongolian parliament approved the law on freedom of media in 1998, that the Mongolian National Radio and Television gained its independent status. Parliament has recently approved the law on transparency of information and right to obtain information, he went on.
The Speaker has spoken about a present socio-economic situation of Mongolia and future.
In turn, the OANA president Mr. Hilmi Bengi has expressed thanks on behalf of the meeting's participants to the Speaker for the audience. He has underlined that the OANA, one of the organizations who plays an important role in Asia-Pacific region, was was founded in 1961 at initiative of the UNESCO with goals to share information among Asia-Pacific countries and to prevent domination of any news agency.
Mr. Bengi has said he is satisfied with successful organization of the OANA meeting, and congratulated the MONTSAME news agency for it.
