Thailand extends free bus, train services

BANGKOK, June 30 (TNA) - Thai authorities announced on Thursday that free rides on passenger trains and Bangkok buses will continue for another four months; while Thai Airways International (THAI), the national flag carrier, promised to cap its airfares amid rising operation costs.
Yutthana Tapchareon, Governor of the State Railway of Thailand (SRT), approved the further four-month extension of free train services for the public, effective from Friday.
Opas Phetmunee, Director-General of Bangkok Mass Transit Authority (BMTA), also confirmed, separately, the same four-month extension of free bus rides for passengers in the Thai capital, also effective from July 1.
Meanwhile, THAI President Piyasvasti Amranand insisted on the national airline's freeze on its current airfare rates, including fuel surcharges on tickets, although Airports of Thailand Public Company Limited (AOT) has signaled to soon raise its fees charged on international airlines using Thai airports.
