OANA AND NEWS AGENCIES OF NEIGHBOR COUNTRIES GIVE REPORTS

Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, /MONTSAME/ Reports have been delivered at the 33rd Executive Board meeting and 27th Editorial-Technical Experts Group meeting of the Organization of Asia-Pacific News Agencies (OANA). They are sounded by Mr. Tahsin Aki, the OANA secretary-general, and by authorities of news agencies of Russia, China, Japan, the Republic of Korea, Australia, Turkey, Azerbaijan, Malaysia, Vietnam, Thailand, Indonesia and Iran.
Mentioning that the 41-member OANA, set up to facilitate News and information flow among Asia Pacific countries, turns 50 years this year, Mr. Akti has said the national Iraqi News Agency was admitted to membership last year but its membership has not been activated as agreed by OANA General Assembly last year. "We also have a membership application from Lebanon National News Agency NNA in front of us, awaiting our decision. OANA continues to be relevant and attracting interest from News agencies and other media organizations," he said.
FANA, Federation of Arab News Agencies has applied to start cooperation with OANA and a draft agreement was on the agenda of the meeting. "We already have cooperation agreements with other regional News alliances such as EANA, European Alliance of News Agencies and AMAN the Mediterranean News Agencies Alliance," he said.
“Video has become an indispensable product line of News Agencies in the world. With the advent of tablets and smart phones revolutionizing the media industry, telling the stories with moving pictures and audio will slowly take precedence over text. Though printed paper is still the king in large parts of Asia, it is another story in Europe and North America where they are preparing to write obituaries for print copies of publications. Media companies are moving fast to reach their audience on the electronic screens. But by its nature, electronic screens are not ideal for reading. So introducing video exchange on OANA website will be a timely move and will add to the value of cooperation among members,” Mr. Akti said.
Then a report was given by Ms. Natalia Menshikova, a head of International Press-Center of the Russian ITAR-TASS. She has underlined "in case of last global changes in multinational media market today's news and info-industry are undergoing tremendous alterations". She has added that not long ago "we were talking over possibility of using the Internet. Now it became the part and parcel of our life. There are no doubts that in their work news agencies need to show much attention to new IT technologies. We also should strive to provide the customer with various ways of getting news,” Mr. Menshikova said. She has mentioned another important issue--the emergence and introduction of modern technologies and latest features of mobile communication. The usage of multimedia technologies and latest features of mobile communication organizing specialized web-conferences became part and parcel of day-to-day activity not only for Internet-media, but for news agencies as well, she said.
In addition, she has said that ITAR-TASS holds educational seminars twice a year for foreign colleagues from different news agencies from all over the world, carries out journalist exchange with more than 40 countries that allows to obtain information at first hand. The exchange of journalists that has proved itself to be a good practice is another instrument of strengthening the collaboration and raising the effectiveness of OANA mass media work, too, she added.
The director-general for China's Xinhua Agency for Foreign Affairs Zhou Zongmin has said Xinhua is conducting strategic transformation by supplying new media products besides the traditional ones, focusing on end-users aside from media organizations, and participating more actively in the international activities and cooperation. For now, Xinhua has initially built itself into an all-media news organization, providing clients with seven forms of service, namely wire service, newspaper and magazine, television, website, financial information, new media services and multimedia database.
