Army: Thai soldiers will never invade any country first

BANGKOK, June 29 (TNA) - A top army officer said on Wednesday that Thai troops, including those who are deployed along the border, will never invade any country first.
Lieutenant General Udomdej Sitabutr, Commanding General of Thailand's First Army Area Command, affirmed the Thai military's position, insisting that Thailand has no policy to launch any attack first.
Lieutenant General Udomdej vowed that the Royal Thai Armed Forces were ready to protect national sovereignty if Thailand was first invaded by any country.
Lieutenant General Udomdej acknowledged, however, that Cambodia had reinforced its troops along the Thai-Cambodian border, and that the neighbouring country's small-scaled reinforcement appeared to have no impacts on the Thai side.
The regional army commander also said that unsettled Thai-Cambodian border issues have nothing to do with Thailand's forthcoming general election on July 3.
The senior Thai army officer was responding to reports that Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen had said Thailand could launch an attack across the border into Cambodia and would then use the Thai-Cambodian border rows as a reason to cancel the July 3 national poll. (TNA)
