Al-Alimi, GCC's ambassadors discuss piracy
SANA'A, Sep. 11 (Saba)- Deputy Prime Minister for Defense and
Security Affairs Rashad al-Alimi discussed on Thursday with
ambassadors of Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) and border countries
with Read Sea and Gulf of Aden the phenomenon of marine piracy on
the Somali seashores and its danger on international navigation.
The meeting dealt with fields of joint cooperation between Yemen and
those countries and means of reinforcing and developing them.
During the meeting, al-Alimi acquainted the ambassadors with efforts
that Yemen exerts to fight this phenomenon though limited abilities,
making clear impacts and harm of piracy on the international
navigation and the consequent reflections on the regional security
and the increase of insurance charges on ships sailing through this
important international sea passage.
He affirmed the importance of reinforcing the regional and
international cooperation to combat the phenomenon of maritime
piracy as well as the importance of supporting efforts of Yemen to
fight this phenomenon to eliminate it and all acts related to
smuggling and illegal immigration.
For his part, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Ali Muthana
emphasized the importance of the participation of countries of the
region in the conference which will be held in Sana'a on the
phenomenon of the international maritime piracy in October.
