UN staff urged for impartiality in Thailand's July 3 election

BANGKOK, June 27 (TNA) - The United Nations has urged its staff members to strictly exercise their impartiality and to adhere to apolitical expressions in the runner-up to Thailand's forthcoming general election, set on July 3.

Noeleen Heyzer, UN Under-Secretary-General and Executive Secretary of the UN Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UN-ESCAP), said in a statement published Monday that the UN staff members must ensure their views and expressions do not adversely affect their official duties and the interests of the United Nation, regarding Thailand's upcoming national poll.

In her statement, Heyzer, who is also the UN Designated Official for Thailand, urged all the UN staff as well to comply with safety and security instructions and to avoid any action which may be perceived as contrary to the principles of the UN Charter, or in violation of the UN Staff Regulations and Rules.
