Thailand holds urgent meeting on undersea gas leak

BANGKOK, June 27 (TNA) - Energy authorities in Thailand are holding an urgent meeting on Monday to discuss measures to resolve problems emerging from a recent gas leak in the Gulf of Thailand.

Thai Permanent Secretary for Energy Nokhun Sitthipong said that the gas leak was caused by a broken natural gas pipeline, owned by Thailand's petroleum giant, PTT Public Company Limited (PTT).

Nokhun assured, however, that there will be no power shortages in the country, as PTT has been ordered to import additional 60,000-70,000 tons of liquefied natural gas (LNG), on top of its existing stock of 180,000-200,000 tons at a depot in Thailand's eastern Rayong Province. (TNA)
