Thai voters actively show up to exercise right in advance voting
BANGKOK, June 26 (TNA) - Thai eligible voters actively showed up to exercise their right both in and outside their home constituencies nationwide Sunday ahead of the July 3 election.
About 2.64 million eligible voters registered for advance voting nationwide and the lion’s share of over 1 million people registered in Bangkok.
A lot of voters queued up at Sukhothai School in Bangkok‘s Dusit district Sunday morning to cast vote outside their home constituencies. Among the voters was Privy Council president Prem Tinsulanonda who came to excise his right before the election day at the 19th poll unit.
In the northern province of Chiang Rai, a morning rain did not affect voters’ turnout at the provincial polling unit at Charoonrat School in the Chiang Rai municipality. Voters actively showed up before the polling station was opened, causing traffic congestion in the vicinity.
In Chiang Mai province, voters kept coming to the polling unit for advance voting outside their constituencies at Big C department store amid raindrops.
In the Northeast, soldiers who were deployed to patrol the border near the Preah Vihear temple in Si Sa Ket province took turns to cast their votes in advance at the auditorium of the Kantharalak district office.
In Ubon Ratchathani province, over 500 people waited for the opening of their polling unit. More than 7,000 people registered for advance voting outside their constituencies in the province. The voting started with slight confusion which was later solved.
Lots of voters also showed up in three violence-plagued southern border provinces. In Narathiwat province, soldiers, local people and government officials cast their votes at Rangae School in Rangae district. The activity went on smoothly amid tight security.
In Yala province, 13,000 people registered for advance voting. They queued up at the polling units, which were also strictly protected. (TNA)
