Advanced voting in Thailand foreseen to proceed smoothly

BANGKOK, June 25 (TNA) - The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) says it expects Sunday’s advance voting ahead of Thailand’s general election on July 3 will proceed smoothly.

BMA Permanent Secretary Charoenrat Chutikarn insisted that all constituencies in the Thai capital and concerned officials have been well-prepared for the advance polling.

Charoenrat said that he has also ordered each constituency to securely store all ballot boxes prior to the early election and to prepare water pumps in case of unexpected flooding in the city, possibly caused by heavy downpours this weekend.

Meanwhile, the Election Commission of Thailand (EC) has also confirmed its readiness for handling the advance polling, particularly in Bangkapi and Bangbon constituencies in Bangkok, where more than 100,000 and 20,000 people have, respectively, registered for the early voting.

Advisor to the Royal Thai Police Police General Pongsapat Pongcharoen said, on the other hand, that the Royal Thai Police will deploy a total of 35,000 police officers at 557 polling stations across the country to ensure law and order during the advance election, set from 8am-3pm, as nearly three million people have registered for the advance voting nationwide.
