Terror bid foiled, 20kg explosives found near JPMC

KARACHI, June 24, 2011 (PPI): Police foiled a terror bid on Friday by defusing 20 kilogram explosives fitted with two detonators planted in a ground for Juma prayers in a residential colony near Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC).

According to police, 20kg explosives were recovered from a ground in residential colony near JPMC where the people used to offer Juma prayers. Bomb Disposal Squad rushed to the scene and defused the device having ball-bearings, iron plates and detonators connected to it.

Acting CCPO, Karachi and DIG South Iqbal Mehmood told the media that the bomb was remote-controlled. He said as strict security measures have been ordered for Friday prayers the police were able to detect the presence of explosives.

He further said that the police have been ordered to beef up the security across the city.
