Thailand to host 14th ASEAN Senior Officials forestry meeting

BANGKOK, June 24 (TNA) - Thailand will host the 14th Meeting of the ASEAN Senior Officials on Forestry (ASOF) in the country’s northern Chiang Mai Province next month.

The Royal Forest Department, under the Thai Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, said on Friday that the upcoming meeting, scheduled for July 4-8, will draw forest department heads of member countries of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) for regional discussions on the following up on the ASEAN Agriculture and Forestry Ministers' previous approval of joint forest management issues and related policies and regulations.

The Thai department announced that it also plans to raise the issue on sustainable co-existence between communities and forests, especially in the use of forest resources and wild herbs, during the five-day regional gathering.

Prior to the 14th ASOF Meeting, a related technical forum on “forest technologies for the public” will be held at the Royal Forest Department in Bangkok from June 28-29--during which ASEAN forestry experts will share their relevant studies. (TNA)
