ABAC Poll: Pheu Thai list candidates remain more popular than Democrats

BANGKOK, June 22 (TNA) - A latest survey, published on Wednesday, found that the Pheu Thai Party is likely to win the lion’s share of party list MPs, or 55 seats accounting for 43.7 per cent, in Thailand's forthcoming general election on July 3, followed closely by 49 seats, 39.1 per cent, of the rival Democrat Party; while over 10 million Thai voters were found to have not made any decision.
The poll was conducted by the Research Center of Bangkok-based Assumption University, seeking opinions of 5,349 people in 28 provinces across Thailand from June 1-21, 2011. The ABAC poll also indicated a possible voters’ turnout of 69.2-83.2 per cent; while 23.8 per cent of the Thai electorate, or some 11.26 million of the country's total eligible voters of 47.32 million, might not cast their votes.
The poll also found that the Bhumjaithai Party would win eight House seats or 6.6 per cent, the Chart Pattana Puea Pandin Party four seats or 3.5 per cent and other parties, namely Rak Thailand, Rak Santi, Matubhum and Chartthaipattana parties would obtain altogether about 9 seats or 7.1 per cent of all list MPs.
The poll also showed that those who would tick the no-vote box would account for 5.1 per cent of the total Thai voters who would exercise their electoral right. (TNA)
