Ambassadors of three countries meet Yingluck

BANGKOK, June 22 (TNA) - The ambassadors of three European countries in Bangkok met Yingluck Shinawatra, the top list candidate of the Pheu Thai Party, on Wednesday to exchange views on updated developments in the lead-up to Thailand's forthcoming general election, set on July 3, and the Pheu Thai Party's policies.
The ambassadors of the United Kingdom, Switzerland and Norway held a meeting with Yingluck at the Pheu Thai Party's headquarters in the Thai capital, during which they also gave their best wishes on the occasion of her 44th birthday on June 21, which was also the birthday of British Prince William.
UK ambassador Asif Ahmad said that the meeting with Yingluck was part of his move to meet representatives of several Thai political parties to learn on Thailand's situation related to the July 3 general election, and that it was his second meeting with Yingluck. The UK top envoy was also scheduled to meet Thai Army Chief General Prayuth Chan-ocha in the city later in the afternoon to discuss security and political issues.
The UK ambassador expressed his hope for a fair election in Thailand, saying that a party winning the highest number of Thai House seats should have the right to form the next Thai coalition government possibly with smaller parties.
According to the UK ambassador, no Thai parties have invited foreigners to observe the country's July 3 national poll so far. Under international practices, observers can be present only if they are invited. (TNA)
