O104 E. coli strain has not reached Thailand: Public Health Ministry

BANGKOK, June 20 (TNA) - The Thai Public Health Ministry confirms that the deadly outbreak of the O 104 E. coli strain in Germany has not reached Thailand.
Dr Paijit Warachit, permanent secretary to the Ministry, reported the update on Monday, insisting that no Thai people had so far been infected by the bacteria.
Dr. Paijit said all imported food products to Thailand had also been confirmed as safe for consumption.
Regarding a possible human-to-human E. coli transmission, Public Health Minister Jurin Laksanavisit, meanwhile, quoted the Department of Disease Control as saying that such cases had not yet been finalized.
He added that presumably, people became infected after eating food prepared by a cook who was a carrier, and transmitted via mediums such as food material and water. (TNA)
