MONGOLIA RECEIVES 50 COCHLEA NURSERY TRANSPLANTS
Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, /MONTSAME/ The Health Ministry of Mongolia and Cochlear firm of Australia signed June 17 a cooperation memorandum on purchasing “Cochlea nursery transplant” for congenital stone-deaf children of Mongolia.
The “EMJJ” otolaryngology hospital will be first to buy 50 pieces of cochlea nursery transplants from Australia. One piece costs 29,500-33,000 US dollars in the world market, buth the firm has decreased the price to 19 thousand 500 US dollars for the Mongolian side.
A “Cochlea nursery transplant” surgery has been performed here since 2009 on 12 children so far with successful results.
Cochlea implant was put into practice in 1970.
Present at the ceremony were Mongolia's Health Minister S.Lambaa, a president of Cochlea firm of Australia Brendon Mason, Dr Honoured doctor B.Erdenechuluun, audiological doctor M.Zaya, a general manager in charge of Cochlea of "EMJJ" hospital L.Enkh-Amgalan.
Mongolia has over 120 thousand people with hearing problems.
