GCC Secretary General lauds Arab efforts to resolve Darfur issue
Riyadh, September 10, SPA -- Abdulrahman bin Hamad Al-Ateyyah,
Secretary General of Gulf Cooperation Council, welcomed today the
formation of an Arab League ministerial committee, under the
chairmanship of Sheikh Hamad bin Jassem bin Jabr Al Thani, Qatari
Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, who is also the
current president of the GCC Ministerial Council, to arrange a
meeting to be hosted by Doha, Capital of Qatar to sponsor peace talks
on Darfur between the Sudanese government and the concerned parties
to resolve this crisis.
In a press statement, Al-Ateyyah, suggested that the leadership of
the State of Qatar and membership of Saudi Arabia of this committee
affirms GCC keenness to ensure the success of Arab efforts to address
the crises of the region, stressing that the achievement of peace in
the Sudan would have positive effects on that country and its people
and would contribute to promoting regional security.
He called on Sudanese brothers to support the efforts of the
committee.
