The World Heritage Committee started its meeting in France

BANGKOK, June 19 (TNA) - Thai delegations stand firm on their proposal for the World Heritage Committee (WHC) to delay its consideration on the issues relating to the Preah Vihear temple as the WHC meeting started Sunday in France.

The meeting took place at the World Heritage Center at the headquarters of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), drawing representatives from 187 countries of all 193 member states. On the first day of its meeting, the WHC would review its agendas which included Cambodia’s management plan for the World Heritage-listed Preah Vihear temple.

Thai delegations, meanwhile, sought to meet the chair of the World Heritage Committee on the sideline of the meeting to convince him to delay the WHC’s consideration for Cambodia’s plan until a border demarcation in the vicinity of the ancient temple is completed.

The Thai delegations earlier prepared documents to present to the representatives of other countries at the WHC meeting as they expected Cambodia to do its utmost to convince the WHC to approve its plan. (TNA)
