Yasothon's bamboo furniture

YASOTHON, June 18 (TNA) - People in Dong Yang Village of Maha-Chana-Chai District in Thailand's northeastern Yasothon Province have successfully developed their own indigenous method to produce bug-resistance bamboo-furniture--which has become increasingly popular.
Chairman of the Dong Yang's bamboo conservation group said that the unique locally-made furniture normally generates income of up to several hundred thousand baht to the local villagers monthly, as each furniture item can be sold at a high price, approximately 5,000-6,000 baht, due to its unique bug-resistance and durability.
The chairman acknowledged that such the locally-developed method for making bamboo furniture has been practiced since early generations and is a true indigenous wisdom, saying although the production process is rather complicated and time-consuming, it is a good way to produce high quality and durable furniture products.
The chairman revealed that market demand for the Dong Yang's furniture products has been growing, suggesting interested buyers to make their orders one month in advance because the villagers can produce only about 15 sets of the bamboo furniture a day. (TNA)
