Minister: No problem with exports of Thai poultry

BANGKOK, June 18 (TNA) - The Thai Ministry of Commerce says that there has been no problem with exports of Thai poultry products, as shipments of the Thai food to importing markets have continued, including those to the European Union (EU) and Japan, where strict regulations have been imposed.
Thai Permanent Secretary for Commerce Yanyong Puangraj has acknowledged that most Thai poultry exports are processed chicken and all have met international standards in terms of food safety. Yanyong insisted that domestic sales of chicken have also remained intact.
Yanyong's remarks followed an incident in which Thai livestock officials raided six illegal chicken slaughterhouses in Pak Chong District of the country's Nakhon Ratchasima Province last Monday and seized some eight tons of decomposed chicken.
The senior Thai official said that four suspects had been arrested and an official probe on the case was underway, as the Thai investigators had assumed that the suspected wrongdoers were selling rotten chickens which farm owners were supposed to destroy the carcasses. (TNA)
