Suspected Cambodian spy faces arrest warrant

SI SA KET, June 17 (TNA) - Thai authorities have issued an arrest warrant against a suspected Cambodian spy, who has escaped after being apprehended last week, along with two other suspects, by local police in Thailand's northeastern Si Sa Ket Province.

Si Sa Ket Governor Somsak Suwannasujarit confirmed the issuance of the arrest warrant against the Cambodian national, who was charged with espionage and is reportedly a colonel attached to the Cambodian army's intelligence corps.

Thai caretaker prime minister Abhisit Vejjajiva insisted that an investigation is underway, and that the Thai military has no problem handling national defence despite the escape. Abhisit also said that Thailand will inform the world community of the issue.

Two other suspected spies, a Thai and a Vietnamese, have remained in Thai court custody. The three men were arrested by the Thai police for alleged spying in Si Sa Ket's Kantaralak District near the Thai-Cambodian border. (TNA)
