Melkert discusses outstanding issues with Kirkuk’s law Makers

The Special Representative of the SG for Iraq (SRSG), Ad Melkert, met on Thursday, June 16, with law makers from Kirkuk, Arabs, Kurds, Turkman and Christians, discussing means to go ahead with regards to outstanding issues related to Kirkuk, including holding provincial council’s election and sharing power.
In a statement to the press, Melkert said, “The meeting was a continuation of the efforts exerted by the UN Mission to help Iraq to bring various components of Kirkuk together to solve outstanding issues through open dialogue.”
He added that the discussion was constructive and the UN Mission will continue helping Iraq through bringing all side together to facilitate negotiation toward reaching an agreement.
Participants in the meeting expressed gratitude to the efforts of the UN Mission. The meeting was held in a positive atmosphere and all sides agreed to continue the discussion until an agreement is reached.
