Govt set up commission to probe Shahzad murder

ISLAMABAD (PPI) - Accepting the journalists’ demand, the Government has set up a commission headed by a sitting judge of the Supreme Court Justice Saqib Nisar to probe into the murder of journalist Saleem Shehzad.

Federal Information Minister Firdous Ashiq Awan on early Thursday development announced the government had accepted their demands and the commission was formed to investigate into Salim Shahzad’s murder.

Dr Firdous, while addressing the journalists’ sit-in in front of Parliament House, said that Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani has signed the summary to appoint Justice Saqib Nisar as the head of the commission and now he (Saqib Nisar) will head the commission.

Various political parties’ leadership including PML-N Quaid Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif and JUI-F Chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman also joined the sit-in to express solidity with journalists who are protesting for the acceptance their due demands.

It is pertinent to mention here that journalists had boycotted the National Assembly and Senate sessions on Wednesday and launched a 24-hour sit-in in front of the Parliament House to protest the killing of Shehzad.

However, after the announcement by Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan the protesting media personnel decided to end the sit-in which was planned to continue till 4pm on Thursday.
