Cambodian soldier allegedly spying on Thai reportedly flee

BANGKOK, June 16 (TNA) - A Cambodian secret agent--who is a colonel and was suspected for spying on the Thai soil--has reportedly fled after he was arrested by Thai security forces recently.

Thai caretaker Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva said Thursday that the man is a Cambodian soldier, but he does not know his rank, noting that the information obtained from the account of the arrested Cambodian spy showed that Thailand did not frame anyone. Abhisit insisted that Thailand would inform the world community of the issue.

Regarding developments with the World Heritage Committee, Abhisit said he had discussed with the Bahrain prime minister, who currently chairs the World Heritage Committee, what would be on the agenda of the UN panel at its forthcoming meeting in Paris later this month.

The Thai caretaker premier said that a Thai working group, headed by caretaker Natural Resources and Environment Minister Su-wit Khun-kit-ti has been doing its best to handle the issue, and that the Thai working group will also raise the espionage attempt by Cambodia on the Thai soil during talks on Thai-Cambodian border rows related to the World Heritage listed Preah Vihear Temple.

Three men were arrested by the Thai police for alleged spying in Kantaralak District of Thailand's northeastern Si Sa Ket Province near the Thai-Cambodian border last week, including a Thai, a Cambodian and a Vietnamese nationals. (TNA)
