BMA expects voters’ turnout of at least 70%

BANGKOK, June 15 (TNA) - The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) launched its electoral campaign caravan in the capital Wednesday, saying that it expects a voters’ turnout of at least 70 per cent on the upcoming national poll date, set on July 3, up from 69 per cent in the previous election.

City Clerk Charoenrat Chutikan presided over a ceremony to launch the caravan, consisting of vehicles and campaigners from Bangkok's 50 district offices, as well as campaigners on choppers, motored tricycles and bicycles. The caravan left the BMA headquarters and campaigned for the July 3 general election on streets on a distance of 16.2 kilometers totally, from the City Hall to Ramkhamhaeng University, urging eligible voters along the way to exercise their electoral right.

Charoenrat said despite fiercer competition among Thai political parties, the overall situation has remained calm and the BMA has not received any serious complaint, noting that BMA staff members have enough experiences to handle situation.

As a number of voters have registered for advance polling nationwide set on June 26, Charoenrat urged eligible voters to reach their polling units early and not to arrive there close to 3pm when ballot boxes are to be closed, saying if voters are unable to finish their advance polling within 3pm, authorities will give them queue cards which will also prove that they show up to exercise their right.

The City Clerk also suggested that people contact their district offices for correction if they find wrong names of eligible voters in their houses, and that the correction can be sought from June 15-June 22. (TNA)
