THAI to acquire new fleet of planes

BANGKOK, June 15 (TNA) - Thai Airways International (THAI), the national flag carrier, has unveiled a plan to acquire a new fleet of 37 passenger planes, totally worth some 3.9 billion-US dollars.
THAI President Piyasvasti Amranand said that the new fleet of aircraft should help save the national airline's annual fuel and maintenance costs by 1.3 per cent and 3.2 per cent respectively, noting that the THAI board has already approved the plan and reported to the Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET).
Under the plan, part of the new fleet of planes, or 15 of them, will be acquired through a purchase contract worth about 49.54 billion baht and another 22 through leases worth some 69.07 billion baht.
Piyasvasti said that all the new aircraft will be added into THAI's intercontinental, regional and domestic routes, replacing the company's 41 ageing ones within a 10-year timeframe.
The THAI chief affirmed transparency and good governance throughout the process of the acquisition of the new fleet of passenger planes. (TNA)
