Qld budget helps regions rebuild

SYDNEY (AAP) - June 14 - Regional Queensland is set to benefit from natural disaster recovery funds and hospital upgrades.
Queensland Premier Anna Bligh says every region affected by the recent floods and cyclones will benefit from almost $3 billion in funds to rebuild roads, railways and public buildings.
More than 58 per cent of Queensland's capital works will occur outside the state's capital city.
Key regional highways to be upgraded are the Bruce Highway, Dawson Highway, Gore Highway, Leichhardt Highway, Mount Lindesay Highway, New England Highway, Warrego Highway, Wide Bay Highway and Cunningham Highway.
The Kennedy Developmental Road, which extends from far north to central Queensland, has been allocated $72.5 million in works and $84 million will go towards repairing transport crossings of the Great Dividing Range at Toowoomba and Cunningham's Gap.
About $245 million will go towards hospital expansions at Townsville, Mackay, Mt Isa, Cairns and Rockhampton.
Tully Hospital's nurses quarters, damaged by Cyclone Yasi in February will receive $3 million in repairs.
Townsville's beachside parkland, the Strand, will benefit from more than $2 million in restoration work.
More than $37 million will be used to recruit 126 mental health staff to counsel the state's flood and cyclone victims as part of a two-year program jointly funded by the federal government.
Local governments in far north Queensland, from Cardwell to the tip of Cape York Peninsula have been allocated $151.3 million for reconstruction projects.
North Queensland councils, covering Ingham, Townsville, Charters Towers and the Ayr area have received $122.5 million for reconstruction.
The Mackay and Whitsunday regional councils received $50 million and central Queensland received $123.9 million for reconstruction.
More than $174 million in reconstruction funds go to the Wide Bay and Burnett region.
The Darling Downs and West Moreton region scored more than $202 million and Western Queensland $108.4 million for reconstruction.
Meanwhile, the Sunshine Coast share in rebuilding funds is $18.2 million, the Gold Coast's $10 million and the greater Brisbane region, $137.3 million.
