Journalists Syndicate holds on Wednesday a celebration on the Iraqi Press occasion

Baghdad (NINA) - The Iraqi press on Wednesday celebrates the 142nd anniversary of the Iraqi National Press Day, the date of issuance of the first Iraqi newspaper Al Zawra on the 15th of June, 1869.

The Syndicate’s chairman, Muayad Al Lami, told NINA "the Syndicate has prepared a big program to celebrate the occasion, including a reception for the guests in the hall of Alwiya Club in Baghdad, statements of the Syndicate, the International Federation of Journalists, the Federation of Arab Journalists, and senior Iraqi journalists.

Lami said the celebration includes honoring the families of the martyrs of the press and the pioneers in news agencies, local newspapers, satellite channels, institutions and centers, and the retired journalists referred to the journalists’ pension fund.



The celebration also includes the honoring of correspondents of some media outlets for their excellence in service of journalism and the sacrifices they made for the service they present, in addition to honoring the spark starter of the uprising of the Arab people against the tyranny of authority, the Tunisian Mohammed Bouazizi.

Meanwhile, the Iraqi Journalists Syndicate called on local newspapers, satellite channels, local news agencies, and local radio stations to nominate a journalist of the outstanding work coverage to be honored during the ceremony.
