Floods expected for NSW mid-north coast

SYDNEY (AAP) - June 13 - Heavy rain has drenched parts of the NSW coast and left them vulnerable to flooding, the Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) says.
The Bureau has issued minor flood warnings for parts of the mid-north coast and the northern rivers region, with the towns of Coffs Harbour and Bellingen of particular concern.
"We have got a bit of minor flooding going on (and) there is a lot more rain expected," Hugh Bruist a senior hydrologist at the BOM told AAP on Monday.
"Everything is pretty wet and there could be anything up to 200 millimetres of rain in some places in the next two days."
The State Emergency Service (SES) has received over 250 calls for help since the downpours started on Sunday and five people, some trapped in cars, have been rescued.
All the rescues took place in the Gosford and Ourimbah areas, and one involved moving a number of horses trapped by rising floodwaters.
"There were just a few people that got stranded by floodwaters ... in one instance, there were a couple of horses in a paddock that had to be rescued," an SES spokeswoman told AAP on Monday.
A severe weather warning remains in place for the northern tablelands, northern rivers and mid north coast districts with conditions expected to ease on Thursday.
Holiday makers returning home on the Pacific Highway and Princes Highway to expect delays due to localised flooding, and the SES is warning people not to walk, ride or drive through floodwaters.
