S.BATBOLD ATTENDS WORLD ECONOMIC FORUM ON EAST ASIA

Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, /MONTSAME/ The Premier S.Batbold participated in the World Economic Forum on East Asia 2011 held June 12-13 in Jakarta, Indonesia. Under a topic “Responding to the New Globalism”, the forum has brought together some 600 leaders of over 40 countries to have discussed food supply and safety, fuels, natural disasters, unequal allocation of incomes, imbalanced situation of economic development of countries and their consequences.
The gathered have considered that common difficulties facing countries are climate change, natural disasters, food safety, big disparity in income and unemployment. To tackle them, many important proposals have been put.
The Mongolian Premier S.Batbold was one of the five participants in a sub-meeting themed “Regulating global difficulties: Asian mechanism responding to crisis” at invitation of Klaus Schwab, a founder and executive chairman of the World Economic Forum (WEF). A proposal made by S.Batbold has highlighted an importance of developing smart collaboration in solving problems facing the East Asian countries.
The Premier has raised a matter on negative effects of desertification to the socio-economic life, and then mentioned that Mongolia is one of the 60 countries suffering water shortage, and that 70 per cent of its territory has become desert.
Economists gathered in Jakarta have shown interest in a speed of Mongolia's economic growth and in its mineral resources such as coal and oil. “Mongolia is rich in the mineral resources, besides, is a country of agriculture. We can become a big food supplier in the future in times when the global discussion is underway concerning the food shortage,” the Premier has stressed.
During the forum, the Premier met his counterpart from Singapore Lee Hsien Loong, representatives of the European Union (EU), the Indonesian Ministers of Trade and Energy, and authorities of the world's biggest companies, to share an issue of opportunity to develop a cooperation.
