Alms-giving ceremony for 15,000 Buddhist monks in Thailand

BANGKOK, June 12 (TNA) - A Buddhism network organised a mass alms-giving ceremony for 15,000 Buddhists monks in Bangkok on Sunday. Alms and dried foods offered in the event will be delivered to Buddhist monks in violence-plagued southern border provinces.
The mass alms–giving ceremony took place on a Bangkok road Sunday morning amid rain drops. A number of white-clad donors participated in the ceremony.
The network of Buddhism-promoting organizations together with government and private sectors organized the ceremony to promote Thai cultures and Buddhism.
Rice and dried foods donated in the event will be delivered to Buddhist monks at 286 temples in four southern Thai border provinces that have been affected by violent insurgency since 2004. Part of the donated foods will also go to disaster victims. (TNA)
