Gaddafi has time before facing trial in the Hague

MOSCOW, June 12 (Itar-Tass) - Mikhail Margelov, the Russian president'
s special envoy for the Libyan settlement, said in a Russian television
news program on Saturday that good reason and understanding of the
calendar were the main international guarantees for Mr. Gaddafi.
"The International Criminal Court in the Hague is to bring about
a verdict on Gaddafi and his family in two weeks from now," Margelov
went on to say.
"The clock is ticking but there's still time to do something over
these two weeks," Margelov said in an interview with a Russian television
news program on Saturday.
During his forthcoming trip to Tripoli Margelov is planning to remind
Colonel Gaddafi examples from modern Arab history when the former leaders
continued living peacefully in their countries after being ousted from
power during military coups.
Margelov told journalists in an interview the other day that he was
planning to visit Tripoli soon. He had asked for meetings with Libya's
prime and foreign ministers.
At the moment, Margelov is waiting for NATO to open an air corridor
for him.
Margelov has just returned from Benghazi where he met representatives
of the Libyan opposition.
He disagrees with Colonel Gaddafi's statement that Libya's opposition
National Transitional Council unites exclusively members of radical
movements.
"I don't have the impression that it's all sheer Al-Quaeda. Naturally,
the Libyan National Transitional Council has people with radical views but
they include a former minister of the Gaddafi government and the former
ambassadors. In short, they are part of the country's political elite,"
Margelov said in an interview with a Russian TV news program (Vesti v
Subbotu) late on Saturday.
