Latest gas talks with Russia have positive result - Ukrainian PM

KIEV, June 11 (Itar-Tass) -- Negotiations with Russia on gas prices,
which were held this week in Moscow "have had a positive outcome,"
Ukrainian Prime Minister Nikolai Azarov said on the country's first
national television channel.
"We asked for no concessions. With Russian Prime Minister Vladimir
Putin we talked about an equitable approach," he added.
Azarov said the Russian side had agreed that "the formula in the
current contract establishes gas prices for Ukraine that are higher than
those for our neighbors."
"We have agreed not to delay the case for a long time, and to clarify
the situation regarding the discrepancy of approaches before long," said
Azarov.
"I said that the contract between Gazprom and Naftogaz Ukrainy will
not work forever. There will come the day when we shall sever it. It is
better to agree on the normal components of the contract sooner or later,"
Azarov said. He emphasized the idea that the Ukrainian side would strictly
abide by the existing agreements on gas and pay on time.
