Democrat secretary-general campaigns for votes in Thai far South

BANGKOK, June 8 (TNA) - Thailand's ruling Democrat Party Secretary-General Suthep Thaugsuban campaigned for votes in the country's troubled far South Wednesday, saying that he believes his party will win House seats there, especially in Yala and Narathiwat Provinces, because Democrats have regularly worked for local people.

Accompanied by other key Democrats, including his two deputies, Thaworn Senneam, who is now Thai caretaker interior minister, and Chamni Sakdiset, Suthep, who is caretaker deputy prime minister, visited the electorate in Narathiwat, Pattani and Yala Provinces.

Regarding campaigns launched by the People's Alliance for Democracy or PAD, a strong Thai civic group, for the public to cast no-vote ballots in the upcoming national poll, set on July 3, Suthep cautioned that the no-vote choice would affect national interest, and that those who choose no-vote ballots could be sorry later for failing to take part in determining the future of the nation.

The Democrat Party secretary-general denied allegations that his party is behind a group of activists's movement, led by Dr. Tul Sitthisomwong, a core member of the multi-colours civic group, and Kaewsan Atipothi, former member of the now-defunct asset examination committee, which has urged the Thai government to investigate Puea Thai Party’s top list candidate Yingluck Shinawatra, who allegedly conspired in asset concealment with her elder brother, exiled ex-Thai premier Thaksin Shinawatra.
