Floods force evacuation of villagers in Surat Thani

SURAT THANI, June 8 (TNA) - A deep inundation, measuring 1-2 metres high, caused by heavy downpurs over the past couple of days have forced local villagers in Thailand's Surat Thani Province, particularly in Khian Sa District, to have evacuated to higher areas.
The Surat Thani Provincial Administration Organisation has sent rescue workers, volunteers and community leaders to help the flood victims to relocate to higher grounds, as more than 30 houses in four villages have been affected.
A main road between Ban Sadet -Khian Sa and Ban Khao Nanai was under the high flooding water causing difficulties for public transport and communications. An initial assessment has found that over 1,000 rai of local farmlands (one acre = 2.5 rai) have been damaged by the latest floods. (TNA)
