RI TEMPORARILY TURNS DOWN KLM'S OFFER TO BUY GMF SHARES
Jakarta, Sept 9 (ANTARA) - The State Enterprises Ministry has temporally turned down a Dutch Royal Airlines (KLM)'s approach to buy some shares in Garuda Maintenance Facility (GMF), a subsidiary of Indonesia's national flag carrier Garuda.
"KLM has proposed to buy some of GMF's shares but we have not accepted the proposal," State Enterprises Minister Sofyan Djalil said here on Tuesday.
Djalil said KLM's interest in acquiring GMF shares should be appreciated but it was best now to consider it only as a spur to improve the company's overall performance.
"We welcome it (KLM's proposal) but we will not let them buy GNF shares yet," he said.
Earlier, Djalil received several KLM representatives at his office after representations by Capital Investment Coordination Board (BKPM) Chief Muhammad Lutfi.
Djalil said the Indonesian government responded positively to KLM's proposal. But for the time being there would only be cooperation to build some facilities for aircraft maintenance.
GMF is a company providing aircraft maintenance services. The government was planning to determine the company's performance before selling the shares to the public (IPO).
"If the KLM wishes to participate in GFF's equity, they can enter after the IPO but it's definitely not now," Djalil said.
